Why is Paintball a Good Scouting Activity?

Whilst paintball is actually an optional activity within the Scouting and Explorers programme, it is a great way to encourage teamwork, and fun, within the group! At Velocity, we have three state-of-the-art paintball centres located across the South of England (Bristol, Crawley or Slough) , all equipped with awesome game zones and low-impact paintball markers.

To help improve your scout’s teamwork, leadership, communication, and strategy skills, our marshals can incorporate games like Capture the Flag into your session, helping your group work together towards a common goal.

Why Choose Velocity Paintball For Scouts?

We’re a trusted paintball venue for many scout and explorer groups, here’s why:

  • A Trusted Centre – As a scout leader, you must ensure that the paintball centre you choose is a member of either the UK Paintball Association or the UK Paintball Sports Federation, as well as having public liability insurance – which we do!
  • Safety – Each paintball centre has a number of trained marshals on site at all times, who’ll conduct a safety briefing before the start of your session. We’re also proud to offer super safe equipment, which are regularly checked and maintained as needed.
  • Low Cost – With sessions starting from as little as £9.99, you won’t find a better price elsewhere. This makes paintball a cheap day out for a large scout or explorer group.
  • Inclusivity – Because we only use low-impact paintballs, everyone can get involved! Every scout can play, no matter what age or gender, how fit, or how sporty! Plus, nobody will be bringing any bruises back home to concerned parents…
  • Engaging Games – Your three-hour session will feature a number of fun games such as Capture the Flag, or Last Man Standing, ensuring a variety of skills are put to good use throughout the day!

Frequently Asked Questions

What Award Does Paintball Count Towards?

Paintball is more than just a thrilling activity – it’s a great opportunity for scouts to grow and develop essential life skills in a fun and engaging environment. Playing paintball with your scout group counts towards both the Teamwork Challenge Award and the Adventure Challenge Award.

Are Scouts Allowed To Play Paintball?

Yes, scouts are allowed to play paintball, provided that anyone under the age of 18 has parental permission. The sport was actually banned by the National Scouts Association up until 2014, due to insurance issues and safety concerns. However, this has since changed, and scout groups are now allowed to play paintball at a UKPSF-accredited centre.

What is the Minimum Age For Paintball?

Whilst Velocity Paintball allows anyone over the age of 7 to partake in low-impact paintball, any scouts under the age of 18 must have their parent’s permission to play, even for low-impact paintball.

What Should Scouts Bring Along With Them?

As well as breathable, comfortable clothing (that they don’t mind getting dirty!), we’d recommend that scouts also bring along a bottle of water and a few snacks to nibble on between games. Ensure they also bring practical footwear – boots or comfortable trainers are ideal. Learn more about what to wear to play paintball in our helpful blog.
