How To Stop a Paintball Mask Fogging Up
A foggy paintball mask is one of the most common issues experienced by players. Not only can it affect your performance on the field, but it isn’t the sort of thing that is easily fixed mid-action! But fear not! In this blog post, we’ll explore five proven tips to help you keep your paintball mask clear and your vision sharp throughout your games.

Avoid Covering Up Vents
The purpose of vents on a paintball mask is to help heat and moisture escape and trust us, there is a lot of that when you are getting sweaty playing the game! Particularly during the colder months, people choose to put an extra layer over their heads, usually a hoodie or beanie. However, this covers the vents meaning there is nowhere for the extra moisture to go, except for on your lens, causing it to fog up.
Top tip: if you do want to wear extra layers on your head during a paintball game, pop your goggles on over the top as this won’t block the mask’s vents.
Utilise An Anti-Fog Spray
Anti-fog sprays are a great way to prevent your paintball mask from fogging up, and they also work for ski goggles, safety equipment, and other types of masks too! The sprays work by creating a thin layer on the lens that prevents moisture from condensing and turning into fog.
Before hitting the field, apply a small amount of anti-fog spray or wipes to the inside of your mask lens, and you’ll enjoy clear vision throughout your game. Plus, you can easily find anti-fog sprays for under £10 on Amazon, or on a specialist paintball site.
Keep Your Goggles Clean
Properly caring for your mask is one of the most effective (and cheapest!) ways to keep your paintball mask from fogging up. Grease, sweat, dirt, and debris can accumulate on the lens over time, reducing its effectiveness at repelling moisture. Once a week, gently clean your mask with mild soap and water, ensuring you properly dry it afterwards.
When you aren’t out killing it on the field, ensure you keep your paintball mask in a protective case, as this can further prevent the build-up of dust and dirt, whilst also preventing the chance of small scratches on your lens.
Wear a Headband To Soak Up Sweat
The less moisture in your mask, the less chance it will fog up. Wearing a headband or sweatband under your mask can help to soak up excess sweat and condensation, leading to less moisture in the mask, and therefore further preventing your mask from steaming up mid-game.
Top tip: Ensure that you wear your headband or sweatband under your mask, as wearing it over the top will cover the all-important vents, and won’t allow moisture to escape when needed.
Choose a Mask With a Thermal Lens
If you’re looking to invest in some of your own paintball equipment, we’d recommend choosing a paintball mask with a thermal lens. Thermal masks have two panels (some compare it to double glazing), which help to regulate temperature and reduce the risk of your mask fogging during a paintball game.
